Jambands, Stick a Fork In Them

In the mid 90’s to the early part of this century, there was a building jamband movement. It came out of the remnants of the Grateful Dead’s fanbase and was led by one of Vermont’s biggest exports, Phish. I am a vet of 20 Phish shows.  A ton of bands sprung up around them and for a time they could pull off their own arena tours and fill the summer calendars with festivals around the country. Well, Phish disbanded and none of the followers could step up to their level. The apex of the jamband world was the Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee. Check out this year’s lineup, jambands are dead

BONNAROO MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES 2008 LINEUP FEATURING:
PEARL JAM, METALLICA, JACK JOHNSON, KANYE WEST, ALISON KRAUSS & ROBERT PLANT
MY MORNING JACKET, WILLIE NELSON, PHIL LESH & FRIENDS, B.B. KING, SIGUR ROS, THE RACONTEURS

It is an amazing lineup but its far from its roots. You know me, I love some musical diversity. Some disappointed trustifarians though driving around the country in their parents SUV’s and Volvos.
