Mother’s Day Events

Belated Mother’s Day greetings to all of the Mom’s.  I celebrated with my Mom yesterday, aka the Best Mom ever! We went to Mass in the morning and then headed to Northampton for brunch. Brunch is not real big in Western Mass and its not part of my usual social activities.  It went very well though! We had a great time. It was a perfect spring day to spend walking around and people watching in Northampton.  The day was complete with a Mother’s Day protest parade, which appeared to cover everything from peace initiatives, fair labor practices and glbt issues.  Apparently stilt walkers are very socially/politically aware.

It was my first trip to Spoleto for our brunch venue. I am a semi regular at Spoleto Express and have been to their East Longmeadow branch but never to their original site which has spawned a mini restaurant empire in Western Mass.  I think they are up to 6 restaurants now.  Spoleto doesn’t usually do brunch but did it special for Mother’s Day. It was a home run!

The room at Spoleto is very nice. We were seated by the window, kind of in a corner which was nice and private.  I had checked out their brunch menu online and was prepared but got confused when I was told we could order off their usual dinner menu as well. I stuck with brunch and was pleased.

The brunch started off with instead of a bread basket, a muffin basket! We had two smaller blueberry muffins in ours. They were amazing, not too stuffed with blueberries. We ordered their stuffed garlic bread for an appetizer. The bread was gooey and tasty, perfect.  For brunch, I went with the steak and eggs. Mom got the frittata. The steak was a nice small ribeye, with scrambled eggs with some cheese in them and four large pieces of asparagus placed on top of the dish. It all went perfectly together.  Mom’s fritatta had onions, asparagus, mushrooms, cheddar cheese and spinach I believe. It looked amazing. She loved it.

We were both full and satisfied after that meal but we had to go for it and try a dessert. Mom hates to share a dessert but she was up for it yesterday. We got their tiramisu which Mom guaranteed me that I would like their version. She was right! Spoleto’s homemade whipped cream on the side was especially tasty.

Spoleto is a favorite of many in family and when people ask me if I like it, I always say that nobody ever invites me! I can now check Spoleto off the list and plan on going back for dinner. Our waitress who did a great job said to get the Pasta Shells or Chicken Balsamico when I come back.
